The tree is barked off, then wrapped with fresh plantain leaves, enabling it regenerate new layer. Each tree is harvested once a year.
The bark is boiled and beaten to expand ten times its original size. For generations, this process has been used in creating bark cloth.
The challenge bark cloth faced, was when Industrial fabric was introduced, bark cloth was only used for funerals. Today some cloth designers are reintroducing the bark cloth in to use again.
